This
day's drive takes you on a rural back route (but good
roads) passing Khao Luang National Park and Thung
Yai district town (amphoe) to Krabi. A longer route
with heavier traffic goes via Thung Song (H403, H41
and H4019) to Thung Yai (N.B. Follow navigation instructions
on H4015 closely and check the road numbers as bilingual
signs have not been placed along some new roads in
this area).
Leave Nakhon Sri Thammarat by H4016 which is the first main
road to cross the railway south of the station. Take
route H4105. At KM.20 a right [north] turn goes to
the HQ of Khao Luang National Park and a walk that
climbs along the sixteen levels of the Kharom Falls.
Keep
on H4015 through Ban Chandee (KM.36) where two roads
go left. After KM.44, H4015 to Amphoe Chawang bears
right. Keep going straight ahead on H4195 (use the
KM stones to check you are on the right road - ignore
a sign after a few kilometres that indicates H4195
goes right at a T junction) till you reach H41.
The
signpost (in Thai only) at the termination of H4195
points the route to Thung Yai straight ahead (across
H41 on to a pitted dirt road). Drive slowly for approximately
1500 metres and then turn right [north-west] at the
junction with the sealed road (H4019 to Thung Yai
District 10 kms.). If you come to H41 by another route,
both H4019 (H41 approx. KM.215) and H4038 (H41 KM.201)
lead to Thung Yai. In Thung Yai take H4156 to Khao
Phanom. Beware of unsupervised cattle on these roads.
